About This Tour

Less than an hour north of Amman lies one of the ancient world's great surprises: Jerash, the best-preserved Roman provincial city outside Italy. This half-day private tour is the most efficient way to see it — perfect for travelers with a spare morning or afternoon, a layover in Amman, or a first day in Jordan. You enter beneath Hadrian's Arch, built for the emperor's visit in 129 AD, and step into a city frozen in the 2nd century: the immense Oval Plaza ringed by 56 Ionic columns, the mile-long Cardo Maximus still rutted by chariot wheels, and the Temple of Artemis towering over it all.

The South Theatre alone justifies the trip — 3,000 seats with acoustics so precise a whisper from the stage carries to the top row, and often a bagpiper (a quirk of Jordanian heritage) filling the cavea with sound. You'll have around two to three unhurried hours on site with the freedom to linger wherever the ruins grab you, before the comfortable drive back to your Amman hotel. Prefer to go deeper? A licensed local site guide can be arranged at the gate, or extend the day with Ajloun Castle — just ask.
