Jerash & Amman City Tour
About This Tour
Northern Jordan holds one of the ancient world's great surprises: Jerash, the best-preserved Roman provincial city outside Italy. This private day tour begins there in the morning, when the light is soft and the crowds are thin. Your guide leads you under Hadrian's Arch and into a city frozen in the 2nd century — the immense Oval Plaza ringed by Ionic columns, the mile-long Cardo Maximus still rutted by Roman chariot wheels, the Temple of Artemis, and the South Theatre, where the acoustics are so perfect a whisper carries to the top row.
After lunch we return to Amman for the capital's highlights. The Citadel crowns the city's highest hill with the Temple of Hercules and Umayyad Palace, overlooking a sea of white houses spread across nineteen hills. Below, the 6,000-seat Roman Theatre anchors the old downtown, where we walk through the gold souk and spice market and taste Jordan's most famous street food — hot knafeh from Habibah, a local institution since 1951. The day blends two millennia of history with the everyday energy of the modern Middle East, all at your own pace with your own guide and driver.
