Irbid Jordan — Green Northern Highlands & Countryside
Jordan’s Green North — Valleys, Farms & Countryside
Irbid is Jordan’s northern agricultural heartland and one of the best bases for seeing the country’s greener side. Around the city, cultivated hills, olive groves, seasonal flowers and broad valleys create a landscape that feels very different from the desert scenery of southern Jordan. These northern views are especially vivid in spring, when the hills turn green and rural roads wind between fields, villages and wooded slopes.
The city itself is a lively university and market center, but the wider Irbid Governorate is the real draw for landscape-focused travelers. Viewpoints across the northern highlands reveal river valleys, reservoirs, orchards and long ridges stretching toward Ajloun and the Yarmouk region. A private driver makes it easy to pause for photographs, local food and short walks without trying to fit the countryside into a rigid bus schedule.
Irbid works particularly well as part of a northern Jordan circuit. Combine its green landscapes with the Crusader-era Ajloun Castle and forest reserve, the Roman colonnades of Jerash, or the black-basalt ruins and valley views at Umm Qais. Travelers who want a slower itinerary can use Irbid as a northern base rather than returning to Amman after every excursion.

How to Visit
Irbid is about 1.5 hours north of Amman by road. Visit it on a private northern Jordan tour with Jerash, Ajloun Castle and Umm Qais, or stay overnight to explore the countryside at a slower pace. A local driver can adapt the route around weather, road conditions, viewpoints and seasonal flowers.
