About This Tour

Dana is Jordan's wild heart — 320 square kilometers of plunging canyons, sandstone domes and terraced mountainsides that drop from 1,500 meters above sea level to below zero at Wadi Araba. This private day tour starts in the 500-year-old stone village of Dana itself, perched on the canyon rim, where time seems to have paused somewhere in the Ottoman era. From the village terrace the view down Wadi Dana is one of the great panoramas of the Middle East.

With your certified nature guide you'll hike one of the reserve's classic trails — the Wadi Dana rim walk or the White Dome trail, depending on season and fitness — through terrain that shifts from Mediterranean oak and juniper to desert scrub in a single afternoon. Dana shelters over 800 plant species and rare wildlife including the Nubian ibex, sand cat and Syrian wolf; bring binoculars for the raptors riding the canyon thermals. A picnic lunch is included, and the day ends with sweet tea shared with a local Bedouin family, whose flocks have grazed these mountains for generations. Dana pairs naturally with Petra, just an hour further south — many guests visit en route.
