About This Adventure

The Bedouin of Wadi Rum are not a cultural exhibit. They are families who have lived in this desert for generations, who navigate it without GPS, who know the names of every canyon and the face of every star. Spending time with them — properly, over multiple cups of tea — is one of the most affecting things you can do in Jordan.

Cultural immersion experiences range from a single tent visit with tea and conversation to multi-day programmes that include cooking zarb together, learning to read desert navigation by stars, trying Bedouin coffee (bitter, cardamom-heavy, non-negotiable), and participating in evening music around the fire.

The Arabic concept of hospitality — diyafa — is taken seriously here. You will be offered more tea than you thought you could drink, more food than you thought you could eat, and a quality of unhurried attention that is genuinely rare in modern tourism.

Winter nights drop to 0–10°C — bring a warm jacket even if daytime temperatures are mild. Dust and sand are present everywhere in desert camps; if you have respiratory sensitivities, discuss this with the operator. Basic facilities at most traditional camps: squat toilets, limited hot water. Embrace it.
