🐴 Horseback Riding
About This Adventure
There is something genuinely cinematic about approaching Petra on horseback — the Siq canyon walls rising on either side, the rose-red stone narrowing toward the Treasury, and the knowledge that Nabataean traders did exactly this for five hundred years. Horses are available from the visitor centre entrance for the short ride to the Siq entrance.
In Wadi Rum, longer treks cross open desert and skirt canyon bases on sure-footed horses that know the terrain well. Bedouin handlers stay close throughout, especially for beginners. The pace is walked for most of the route with gentle trots on open flat ground.
Petra rides tend to be shorter and more touristic; Wadi Rum rides feel wilder and more immersive. Both are worth doing if you have time for both.

Weather Advisory
Heat above 35°C stresses horses significantly — summer rides are typically refused by responsible operators. Rocky terrain at Petra is unforgiving if a horse stumbles; do not attempt anything faster than a walk in narrow canyon sections. Beginners: expect significant inner thigh soreness after 60+ minutes. Wear long trousers.
