About This Adventure

Hot air balloon over Wadi Rum is one of those experiences that defies adequate description and looks exactly like every photo you have ever seen of it, except that it also sounds like nothing — just the occasional roar of the burner, then silence, then the desert 300 metres below you.

Flights launch at first light to catch the golden hour and the calmest morning air. You drift with the wind (which is the whole point of a balloon — you go where the air takes you), and the route varies daily. On good mornings, the entire Wadi Rum protected area spreads below you like a geological museum.

The basket holds 8–16 passengers depending on the balloon operator. You stand throughout; there is no seating in the conventional sense. There is also no bathroom, and the flight is typically 45–75 minutes — plan accordingly.

Book with a flexible refund policy. Wake-up call is 4–5 AM; you will be standing for the entire 45–75 minute flight with no bathroom option. Dress in layers — basket level at 300 m is cold at dawn.
