🧗 Rock Climbing
About This Adventure
Wadi Rum's sandstone cliffs are among the finest outdoor climbing terrain in the Middle East — hundreds of established routes ranging from gentle slabs for beginners to overhanging multi-pitch faces that have attracted world-class climbers for decades.
The rock quality is generally excellent: coarse-grained Wadi Rum sandstone offers reliable friction and plenty of edges, though some routes have loose sections that require experienced route-reading. The backdrop — the same dramatic valley visible in every Wadi Rum photo — is genuinely extraordinary.
Aqaba offers a completely different experience: sport climbing on coastal limestone above the Red Sea, with the bonus that you can cool down in the water between pitches. The Aqaba crags are smaller in scale but well-bolted and year-round accessible.

Weather Warning
Summer heat makes Wadi Rum climbing genuinely dangerous — rock surface temperatures reach 50°C+ and hold heat long after sundown. Winter winds on exposed ridges are biting. Physical fitness is required; single-pitch sport routes suit beginners, but multi-pitch routes should only be attempted with prior trad or sport climbing experience. Loose holds exist — always test before committing weight.
