🏜️ Wadi Rum Hiking & Trekking
About This Adventure
Wadi Rum on foot is a completely different proposition from Wadi Rum by jeep. At walking pace, the scale becomes comprehensible, the details become visible — fossil impressions in sandstone, Nabataean petroglyphs on canyon walls, flowering desert plants after rain — and the silence becomes total.
Shorter hikes explore the canyon system between Rum village and the main sites: Khazali Canyon has an easy 2 km walk to ancient carvings accessible to any reasonably fit visitor. Longer treks cross open dune fields and ascend ridges for panoramic views across the 720 sq km reserve.
Overnight trekkers on the Jordan Trail's southern section pass through Wadi Rum over several days en route from Petra to Aqaba — one of the finest long-distance walks in the Middle East.

October–April
What's Included
- Licensed Bedouin guide (mandatory for back-country routes)

📅 Best Time to Visit
October–April

Prime months: October, November, December, January, February, March, April
⚠️ Critical Weather Warning
Summer temperatures of 45–50°C in Wadi Rum are genuinely life-threatening without immediate shade and water access — this is not hyperbole. The reserve has no shade infrastructure beyond occasional rock overhangs. Spring sandstorms reduce visibility to metres. Remote terrain means rescue times are long; always hike with a guide outside the main village area, carry 3 litres of water minimum per person, and tell someone where you are going.
